Kayla had left the bonfire party, whatever it was for. Most likely just a bunch of students getting high, drunk and fucking. That's what she thought the reason was anyway. Kayla had just hooked up with Unwyn and to be honest she kind of regretted it. He had hurt her, really hurt her. Kayla was up for rough sex but that was a little bit sadist. She had fingernail cuts in her thigh, a bite mark at the base of her neck that was still bleeding and she had black and purple bruises forming on her wrists. Those were just the bruises that she new she was going to get. Kayla had no idea how she would look in the morning. Luckily though the alcohol was numbing the pain, right now she stumbled off away from the party, heading back towards the castle.
After a little while Kayla started feeling tired. She sat down on a rock and placed her head in her hands. God she was a mess, one fucked up mess. She wanted to be happy, and she wanted to be able to find someone who she could tell her past to, so they would be able to understand her better. It was just no one stuck around her long enough for her to be able to trust. Either that or they usually back stabbed her. "Maybe it would be better if I were just dead." Said Kayla to herself.[/blockquote]

There was no reason for Jack to be at the bonfire party. Just no reason. However, he went, and drank some. He wasn't going to cloud his judgement by getting drunk; he'd done that, and gotten into a lot of trouble with the people he had been working for a while back. If Adyrian's plans weren't executed exactly, there would be problems, and if Jack were drunk, it would spiral out of control. So Jack went to observe. He sat there with his lighter, sitting on a boulder with a beer in his hand. A beer would be nothing for him. And that's when he saw her.
Kayla. He'd already met with her a time or two before. That night in the halls, late, when he was just done following his next victim. He had been meeting up with Adyrian when he'd run into Kayla. She stumbled off and Jack raised an eyebrow, and stood up, taking a swig of his beer. He followed her off a ways until she sat down and mumbled to herself. He scratched the back of his head and sighed.
He looked at the ground and when he looked up at her again, he noticed some things that made him slightly uneasy. There was what looked like a bite mark on the nape of her neck. And once he saw that, his eyes immediately started an involuntary scan of the rest of her body, the parts that he could see. An emotion that Jack couldn't pinpoint welled up inside of him. Visions of Shane being beat up by his dad flooded his mind's sight as he looked at Kayla. He sat down next to her. "WHat happened?" he asked quietly, a slight curl in his lip with anger. He had killed women, girls, before. But it was all for the justice of the world, or so he thought. He'd never, ever killed a woman or hurt a girl for the sheer hell of it. "The bruises here. The...bite mark, there. What happened? Who did it?" he asked, clenching his teeth and holding his beer tightly in his grasp. There were many, many boys at this school that Jack had no problem beating the shit out of. However, there were a handful that he had to leave alone. Adyrian's circle was dangerous, and he enjoyed that, but in order to keep his job, certain things had to be kept underwraps. He was hoping for the first choice, a stupid 7th year Enkelt Kanin who had attacked her. That sounded like somethng he could easily take care of. No mess. Jack sighed and nudged Kayla's arm with his beer bottle. "What's up?"

It wasn't until Jack spoke that she realised he was there. Looking up at him he still looked as hot as he did a few weeks ago when they met in the hallways. She had also met his brother who seemed just as troubled as her, maybe more so, she didn't know because he had taken off pretty much as soon as Jack turned up. He asked her what had happened to her, noticing the marks and bruises on her. "Nothing really. I hooked up with someone at the bonfire party. That's all." She said shrugging as if it didn't matter that she had been hurt. But this was normal for Kayla, so how was she to know the difference. He gave her a nudge with his beer bottle and asked her what's up. Kayla looked away from him and down at her reflection in the lake. She grimaced at the sight of herself and looked down to her lap. The finger nail marks were now beginning to bruise around them, turning a purpley color. "Nothings up, why would anything be up." She lied. There was so much wrong with her she didn't know where to start. It was kind of nice though that Jack was sat with her, trying to figure out what had happened and who done it. It was a new experience to her.[/blockquote]

Jack stared at Kayla. Then watched her gaze fall to the water below them. She was lying. He could usually spot lies pretty quickly, especially since his brother lied on a daily...no, momentary basis. Jack now spotted the fingernail marks on her thighs; red underneath, daring to bleed through the thin layer of skin. He clenched his teeth. This wasn't his affair. This had nothing to do with him, so why did he care? Because she seemed like a decent person. Decent people didn't deserve pain and sadness in their lives. However, he seemed like a decent person, and yet, he'd killed time adn time again. In the name of justice.
So she'd hooked up with someon at a party. He squinted his eyes slightly. He couldn't remember any girl he'd slept with that he'd hurt like that. Sure, he'd left in the middle of the night. He'd been with a girl at a club or out on a road trip. But he'd never hurt a girl while sleeping with her for any reason. So whoever she'd hooked up with, hadn't given two shits about her, even if he did'nt, it showed. Disrespectful. Painful. Disgusting. Jack took in a deep sigh. "Something would be up because even if you hooked up with someone, you sould'nt have these marks, Kayla," he said quietly, his deep husky voice so quiet he wasn't sure she'd hear him. He touched the base of his neck. "I have never, ever bitten a girl here, or left a mark. Who does that?" he asked, wiping a small trickle of blood from her neck. "Who was it?" he asked, taking another swig of his beer and glancing at the party not too far away.

Her eyes stung as she felt the need to break down and cry, but she wasn't going to do that. She never let herself cry, especially not infront of people. It was odd to have someone......asking her what was wrong, because she was used to no one giving a shit about her. Well, she never really hung out with anyone. She had major trust issues and was scared of getting hurt, so she usually kept herself to herself. Talking to Jack was weird to her, but it was a good weird. As a matter of fact the last person she had spoken to was Jack. She couldn't believe that it had been three weeks since she last spoke to anyone. People must have thought she was a mute or something. However she didn't think to much about it.
Out the corner of her eye she could see Jack lift his hand and felt his finger on her neck. Kayla flinched because one, she thought he might hurt her and two her neck was really sensitive from the bite mark. "I'm used to it." She said without thinking. Kayla really hadn't meant to give anything away about her, but it just slipped out. Again he asked who it was, but Kayla couldn't tell him because she didn't know his name. She was such a slut. "I don't know his name but he was a skinny like really skinny guy, probably skinnier than me. His hair came to just above his shoulders, bleach blonde with pink in it." Said Kayla shrugging.[/blockquote]

Jack's eyes went wider for a moment. Unwyn. He knew it right away. Unwyn was far from the type of guy Kayla should be running around with. There were so many things wrong with what he was seeing in his head that he actually rubbed his forehead. Maybe if he rubbed it hard enough the visions woudl go away. He sighed, and took a drink from his beer. How do you go to the next topic of conversation when you were just told that the brother of the guy you work for just hurt a girl he slept with? It was so petty, small, but it bothered him. Kayla didn't deserve to be treated that way. No girl did.
She was used to it? Jack turned his head to face her. "Is it what you imagined it should be? I mean...sex shouldn't be so painful and regretting. You shouldn't regret it, it should be something you look back on and think , hm...I wish we'd gotten to know each other better. Or...I should have called her...or...that could have been better. Anything other than 'I"m used to it'. It was Unwyn, huh? That's who it was. I work for his brother," he said, standing up and reaching into his pocket for a cigarette. Of course, he had the lighter to light it, and in no time at all he was sittig back down with a cigarette between his lips. "He's an ass, but powerful as hell. You should stay away from him." He said, winking at her as he once again nudged her with his beer bottle.

Jack's reaction surprised Kayla a little. Like as if it bothered him or something. As he stood up she looked up at him and watched he lit a cigarette. His little rant seemed to start off serious but then kinda got amusing. he clearly had experience with being with a girl. Otherwise how else would he know how they think. Kayla smiled at him, nearly letting out a little laugh. It felt odd at first as she hadn't smiled in so long, but it felt good to finally smile, rather than just pout all the time. "When I say I'm used to it, I mean I'm used to pain. It's something I've had to accept over the last few years." Said Kayla sighing and shrugging a little as if it was no big deal. It was Unwyn who she had slept with, brother to the guy of Jack worked for. She had no idea who either of them were and she didn't care. "You work for his brother? What do you do?" She asked taking the bottle of beer from him as he nudged her with it again and took a swig. She gave him a slight cheeky smirk and handed the bottle back to him and waited for him to asnwer her question.[/blockquote]

Jack's jaw dropped slightly as Kayla took his beer. This girl obviously had some sort of past. Pain. She was used to pain. What kind of pain? THe physically beaten up kind of pain, or the emotional I sleep with powerful jerks pain? Jack couldn't think of her in either situation. She was a pretty girl with good intentions. So he hoped. He really didn't know her all that well. He took his beer back when she handed it to him. He breathed out the smoke from his cigarette and let his elbows rest on his knees. She wanted to konw what he did. He didn't want to think about questioning her on her pain. It was easier to think about his work.
He took a drag of his cigarette, once again letting out the smoke. "What do I do? I am an assassin. Government overthrows. Flashy high profile assassinations. Those type of things. Quiet murders that look like suicides. COvering tracks. The usual." He said, looking at her. Jack could tell she had her own shady past, so telling her the truth wasn't hard. She could do with it as she liked. "Been doing it for years. Haven't gotten caught. I'm good at what I do," he said, finishing the beer and tossing the bottle on the ground a few feet in front of them.

Kayla saw his jaw drop as she took his beer and she thought that he may snatch it back, but he didn't She wouldn't be a total bitch and drink the whole thing, that was just uncool. Her eyebrows rose slightly as he told her what he did. It was surprising, shocking but she believed him. Why would he lie about something like that. Kayla nodded once he had told her. He was still so young and he had already been doing it for years. How old were you when you started?" She asked. She wondered if he enjoyed it? and if he only killed people who deserved it, like her brother. Kayla had taken care of that and the scary part to her was that she didn't even feel guilty. Sighing, Kayla decided maybe she should tell him a little about herself. It only seemed fair. "My brother used to beat me. It started when I was eleven and my parents didn't believe me so they disowned me. And then my brother decided to hire a vampire to kill me but obviously that didn't work, nearly but not quite. Anyway after years of putting up with his shit I killed him. It was an accident but he deserved it." Said Kayla shrugging as if she didn't care, but she still felt so guilty.[/blockquote]

Jack thought about his past. When did he begin? The first time was a man that had taken something that wasn't his, something that was important to Adyrian or something, Jack couldn't even remember now. He saw the slight shock in her eyes, but it wasn't severe. He wondered why. When a girl found out what he did, she immediatley thought she was one of his target and took off. He sighed, thinking. "14. I was 14 when I met Adyrian." He said, nodding as he watched the water ripple from a light breeze. Their faces distorted as he watched the ripples make their way to the edges of the water.
He slowly turned his head toward Kayla. She'd killed someone, too? She seemed nonchalant about it. It was one thing for him to feel nonchalant, he got paid. She was a beautiful girl with stirking features...something he couldn't imagine killing anything aside from an ant she accidentally stepped on. It broke his heart a little to know that she had done something like that. "I'm glad it was an accident. There can't be innocence in the world without justice. It's my job. You shouldn't be killing anyone. But at least he's dead now, he can't hurt you anymore. And no one else will, either, if I can help it. Just stay away from Unwyn. I'll take care of the rest." He said. He didn't care whether she wanted his protection or not, she'd never know she was getting it. Just like his situation with Shane. That boy didn't know how many times he'd saved him from various people and things. He glanced at Kayla. "Bruises don't suit you."

Kayla raised a eyebrow very slightly as he spoke, but the thing that caught her attention was that he pretty much told her he would protect her. No one had ever protected her or helped her, even though she had asked for help so many times. It was odd to her. She was so used to being by herself and looking after herself. "You.....wanna.....protect me? I don't know how I'm going to pay you. I have no money." She said looking away from him, slightly embarrassed. "You don't have to you know." She said biting her bottom lip. He then got her attention by saying that bruises don't suit her. This time when tears stung her eyes again they slowly rolled down her cheeks. Bruises were nothing compared to what covered her body. Her torso was covered in scars, reminding her what her brother did to her, she also had faint scars on her wrists when she didn't know how else to deal with the pain. "Yeah, neither do scars." She said still not looking up at him. She was on the brink of breaking down and telling him everything.[/blockquote]

Jack looked at Kayla. Money? She thought he meant for her to pay him? Obsurd! Absolutely ridiculous. He let a slow grin fall across his face as he finished his cigarette and threw it to the ground. "No payment. A girl like you should be protected somehow. I know I don't have to...but if it means those bruises will go away, then it must be done." he said, nodding to himself as plans formed in his head for her safety. He was going to have to be careful. If certain people found out about his kindness toward her, she'd be a target.
Jack's forehead crased with conern as she started to cry. Great. HE'd made the girl cry. He hadn't intended on making her cry. Sure, he'd made some girls, even women, cry for the hell of it, but not a girl like this. He sighed, feeling bad, but not sure how to resemble it on his face. Instead, he slowly and gently reached up and wiped each tear away. "Don't think I"m coming on to you...unless you want me to be, but you're too pretty to be crying. No one else will hurt you, I promise," he said, standing up. He felt definitely like he'd overstepped an invisible boundary. He did'nt want to scare her away, he was slowly wanting to spend more time with her. "No more bruises. No more tears. No more sadness."

Why was he being so kind to her? That was what she didn't understand. He didn't want her to pay him, he was just going to protect her because he wanted to. A soft smile broke out on her face again and unintentionally she placed her hand lightly on his. "Thank you." She said very quietly. It was actually so quiet she wasn't sure if he had heard it, but the light squeeze on his hand was sure to send him a signal that she was greatful. Jack hadn't made her cry, not really, but she felt his hand on her cheek and then the other, wiping her tears away. Her eyes locked with his as he called her pretty. Shut up, I'm not pretty." She said looking away from him, blushing. She wasn't used to compliments or people wanting to help her. She wasn't too sure how to react or what to say.[/blockquote]

Kayla put her hand on his and thanked him.He definitely heard it. And her touching him made him look at her hand on his and sigh. The feelings she gave him, even that night in the halls at school, left him wondering about so many things. Maybe he wasn't falling head over heels for her, not yet anyway, but she gave him feelings that made him think that maybe he was ready for a serious relationship. No more finding cute girls at bars and pubs and taking them back to his hotel or , God forbid, his room at Durmstrang. Certain witches dared to beg him to bring themback to Durmstrang, only to find out that his being an assassin meant that they were a target. Those were his least favorite missions. Get close to a girl in order to know the best way to kill her....
Jack snorted a quiet noise at her comment about not being pretty. It was her eyes. They were gorgeous, and they sucked him in, but he had to be careful. He was already standing, his hands in his pockets. "My work causes me to constantly be moving. Aside from being here at school. Being in one place too long kinda makes me uneasy," he said quietly, his deep voice husky and he cleared his throat. He didn't know why, but he wanted to make some sort of move. Maybe it wasn't a 'love me forever!' kind of move, or a 'Never leave me!' move, but more like a...."Wanna take a walk?" he asked, holding out his hand.
Jack wasn't exactly shy, not by any means. He was sure and confident, and in control He knew he was in control of this situation, because it hadn't gotten away from him at all. He hadn't allowed Kayla to think he was a complete waste of time with his work. He'd lead her to believe who he truly was, and did'nt hide from it. "We can walk along the water." He said in a tone that said both come with me and don't be scared, it's just a walk.

It was odd, Kayla was beginning to feel comfortable, really comfortable with Jack. Knowing that he is an assassin she should have felt scared of him, maybe run away, screaming for her life. But she didn't think he would hurt her, especially after he had just told her he would protect her. Holding his hand was a nice feeling aswell. It was nice to have some company, someone to talk to. Jack soon stood up and had his hands shoved in his pockets, maybe she had made him feel uncomfortable by holding his hand. She hadn't meant to, she wasn't even aware that she was doing it.
He explained to her about his work, how he was always moving and being in one place made him uneasy. That wasn't fair on him, he shouldn't be feeling like that at seventeen. His hand extended and he asked her to go for a walk with him, around the lake. It seemed nice and kind of romantic but maybe Kayla was reading too much into that. Kayla took hold of his hand and stood up. "Sure, sounds good to me." She said and began walking with him. It was a nice night. It was clear and the stars twinkled, however it was getting really cold now and goosebumps spread all up and down Kayla's arms and body as she shivered but tried to hide it as she was with Jack. Kayla didn't like being thought of as weak, even though she was. "So, you and Shane seem.........I don't know ummm not close." Said Kayla shrugging a little.[/blockquote]
