First Time In The Light -Skylar-

[Soras Harkness]

Soras looked out the window as she put her earrings on. This was the first date that Skylar and she would be going on. They had always been in the shadows but tonight was a night for both of them to be in the light. She turned around and looked at her closet, she had come home for the weekend to tell her father and step mother about her engagement. They had taken it surprisingly well, she had ommited the part about him being a professor and being the main reason as to why she really transferred to Durmstrang.
She turned and looked at her closet, what would she wear, they were going on a date abroad, somewhere that they could be out in the open and in the day time. She looked over at her sister's dog that was laying on her bed and she held up a black satin dress, What do you think? Too mature? The dog just gave a low moan and closed his eyes. Okay then... She dug deeper in her closet and pulled out a light blue dress, How about this one? The dog looked at her and gave a small growl. Okay okay. I get it. Not this one. Well you know what they say...third time is a charm. She jumped back into her closet and finally found a black dress in a halter top style that had red polka dots all over it. She spun around and looked at the dog, What do you think? The dog looked at her and wagged his tail slightly. She knew that was the best that she was going to get out of him and walked into her bathroom and put the dress on. She studied herself in the full body mirror and decided that she should probably wear leggings.
She walked over to her dresser and opened it. She found a pair of black leggings with a silver stripe at the bottom and put those on under her dress. She walked out of her room to see her step mother walking towards her. Oh my darling you look beautiful Serenity. Soras smiled at her step mother and said, Thanks mom. Do you have any shoes that would go with this? Soras and her step mother had grown quite close over the past few years, and even though she had her name changed to Soras, she allowed her step mother and her father to still call her Serenity. Her step mother looked at her and said, I have just the shoes. Come on. Soras followed her step mom to her room and sat on her bed. How about these? Her mom held up a pair of red shoes with black polka dots and Soras smiled. I think these are perfect. She put them on and spun around. She heard her dad yell up the stairs, Serenity! He's here! Soras smiled and ran to her room and grabbed her little black purse and her leather jacket and walked down the stairs.

Skylar straightened his hair as he looked into the mirror, he ran a brush though it one more time and tugged a few strands down nervously as he stared at his reflection....He bit his lip at the eyes staring back at him....he couldn't believe he was going to do this....He flattened down his shirt and turned around to look at his butt in the tight grey jeans he had picked up for the occasion...He smiled slightly at himself and through on a black hoody before apparating to Greece. He landed softly on her front porch...He nervously shook himself to get over the nerves that were scaring him at the moment...He was about to meet both Soras step mother and her father...he bit his lip and knocked on door nervously....

He smiled at the man who answer and put his hand out for him to shake. Evening Sir. He said while his insides were screaming at him to calm down...he was so nervous...he just hoped the man in front of him would like and approve of him...it meant the world to him...He would hate it if Soras' dad didn't approve of him but he knew it wouldn't matter what he said...he wasn't going to let his priestess go...but he really hoped it wouldn't come down to that...

Alexios watched as Skylar walked into the house, he closed the door behind them and smiled when Skylar held out his hand. Evening son. So you must be Mr. Stargazer...our little Reni won't shut up about you. Its nice to put a face to a name. He took his hand and shook it. I'm Alexios Harkness. Soras and her mother came down the stairs and he nodded to his wife, This is my wife Ophelia and of course our little future bride. Soras rolled her eyes and walked over to Skylar and kissed him gently on the lips.
Ever since I told them...they won't be quiet about it. She grinned at Skylar and turned back to her parents. Ophelia smiled and tears welled in her eyes, Oh I'll go get the camera. She ran off and Alexios chuckled, Ophelia has raised Soras all of her life, at least when she's with us and has always been deeply close to Soras...she's a bit emotional. Soras smiled and said, She is so excited she has a whole book of color swatches for me to look over. Ophelia returned with the camera and began snapping pictures of both Soras and Skylar. Okay mom...I think thats enough...mom....mom...mom stop! Yeesh. Save some film. Ophelia gave a watery laugh and set the camera down. So Skylar...what do you do? Soras looked at Skylar and squeezed his hand to tell him that it was okay. She could tell he was a little nervous and she kissed his shoulder. Oh! I'll go make some tea! You aren't in a rush are you? Come on Soras...let your father get to know him. Soras looked at Skylar and didn't want to let go of his hand. She sighed and kissed him again and ran after her mother.
Alexios smiled and said, Well lets go have a seat. I want to get to know my future son in law. He patted Skylar's shoulder and gestured to the living room. Soras peeked through the kitchen door way and smiled. She turned and Ophelia nudged her, He's a cutie...good for you! Soras smiled and said, Thanks mom. I love him.

Skylar smiled as her father shook his hand It's so nice to meet the both of you, Alexios...Ophelia He repeated more for his memory and nodded at both of them with a warm smile..Well it's nice to hear I'm not the only driving my cousin and family insane with talk of how amazing your daughter is. He said with a wink to Soras.

He smiled as he watched her step mom run off to get the camera so that she could take pictures of them...Nothing wrong with being emotional. He said with a grin as he pulled Soras close to him so that her step mom could get some cute photos of them cuddling. He smirked at Soras as she finally convinced her mom to pull the camera down..he had to admit he was starting to see tiny lights traveling around the room from all the flashing...He couldn't help but bite his lip as her father asked him what he did for a living....he was comforted by Soras squeezing his hand and kissing his shoulder...before he could answer her mom was off to make tea and Soras was dragged along with her...He gave a small smile to her father as he patted his back and went into the living room with his stomach in a knots...he really wasn't sure how he'd take the professor thing...but he had a right to know.

He sat down quietly and smiled, You asked what I did? He said with a small pause...it really wasn't like he hadn't heard him...he was just so nervous to actually let the words come out, Well Sir, I am a very productive guy for my age...I own a shop in Rolige Byen called Knarvick wands...I bought it from the old owner...I have always fancied making wands...I even made my own believe it or not...but the shop isn't my main profession...I am a Professor...a Professor at Durmstrang...of Mythology to be exact. He said with a nervous smile at her father...there, it was out in the open....He stomach kicked him slightly in fear as he waited for her father's reaction to such big news...

Alexios nodded and gave Skylar a mysterious looking smile. Soras could read his face and knew that he liked Skylar on the first initial impression. She knew that Skylar would be honest with her parents where she danced around the fact that he was a professor. He gave Skylar a hearty laugh and Soras giggled when Sky winked at her. Well our little Reni never came home talking about boys, one day she comes for a visit after sending an owl about a surprise and just announces that she was engaged. Needless to say I was shocked but I am glad she has found her soul mate. Her...birth mother...doesn't believe in such things.
He cleared his throat and gave Skylar another bemused look. It's refreshing to see Ophie get overly emotional over something as exciting as this. She already wants to plan the wedding for our little Serenity. Ophelia chuckled and said, Serenity knows she can ask for my help, I already have several color schemes planned.
Soras continued to look out the door way, Ophelia playfully spanked Soras on the butt with a tea towel and said, Stop spying and let your father get to know the boy. So you left Hogwarts for him then... Soras looked at her mother and her mouth dropped, How did you....know? Ophelia smiled knowingly and said, Love please...I know you wouldn't just uproot from a school for Cayden and Krystyna...its just not like you. Love...makes people do silly things. Soras poured the hot water into a fancy gold trimmed tea pot and steeped the tea in the small tea ball. Ophelia conjured up some sandwiches and cookies and placed them on the tray and ushered Soras out of the kitchen.
Soras walked in the living room just in time to hear Skylar tell her father that he was a professor. She paused behind her father and gave Skylar a supporting loving look and walked around her father and set the tray on the coffee table. She sat next to Skylar and crossed her ankles and placed her hands in her lap. Alexios looked at Skylar and Soras could feel all the positive energy surrounding them. He knew she was of age and was sure that they hadn't had a relationship when she wasn't. He nodded, his face remained stoic for a bit. He reached over and poured himself a cup of tea and made a big deal about taking care of his tea before responding. As he placed his two sugars in the tea and poured the cream he sighed and said, As long as you intend to be true to her, treat her right, and not get her in trouble while she is still in school... He leaned back and sipped his tea before nodding and giving Skylar a sly smile, Then you have my blessing.
Soras gasped and put her hands up to her mouth before laughing and tearing up. She jumped off the sofa and kissed her daddy on the head and said, Oh thank you daddy! She spun around and hugged Skylar before sitting right next to him. Would you like some tea love?
Ophelia walked by with her camera and took a few more pictures before settling down next to her husband in their matching arm chairs. She poured herself some tea and smiled at Skylar, Welcome to the family Skylar.

Skylar listened to her father speak about how they had found out, he couldn't help but be amused that she had sprung it on her parents so suddenly..never mentioning to them her traveling behind him to a new school or anything...just sprung it on them that they were getting married...He was pretty lucky they were taking this well...Most parents would flip out if their daughter came home and told them she was getting married when they had never before met the boy...or knew anything about him. He was pretty fortunate they were taking this well. They seemed to not only be taking it well, but to be kinda excited about it was really a good sign...he couldn't help but be nervous though.

Skylar watched her father's face nervously as he thought about what he told him...he felt a nervous tight ball build up in his stomach as the silence seemed to consume the room...he watched as she made himself some tea....he bit his lip...wondering how long the silence would continue...would he blow up at any moment? He really hoped not....

He had to think on his words as he finally spoke for a moment, not quite believing in what he was hearing...once it sunk in he grinned, Sir, I promise on my soul that I will always be true to you daughter..She deserves the world and for some reason she chose me...so I believe it's my honor to worship her as a goddess.. her schooling, is my top priority Sir...I would never do anything to interfere with it...I promise, your daughter will be in good hands. He said with a truthful smile. He smiled at Soras, Thank you love that would be amazing. He could help but beam at her mother as she welcomed him to the family.

Soras smiled, Skylar was taking meeting her parent's really well. She poured him some tea as she listened to him tell her father that he would take care of her and she couldn't help but grin like an idiot. Ophelia began to cry as Skylar told Alexios all those sweet things. She set her tea down and reached for her handkerchief and dabbed her eyes. Oh Alex. You said it almost identically to my parents....
Alexios nodded and smiled Ophelia was right he had said a similar thing. Well I can't stand in between love. You most definitely have my blessing. Ophelia dabbed her eyes and said, As well as mine. Soras smiled knowing that they were both being honest. Here you go darling. She handed him his tea and poured her own and leaned back and snuggled right next to him. We'll be leaving soon for our date...after all thats why we are going on a date after all.
Soras giggled and drank her tea and ate a small cookie her mother had brought out from the kitchen. So Skylar, where do you want to go? I mean we can go anywhere really. She set her empty cup down on the table and leaned back and began playing with Skylar's hair absentmindedly. Alexios and Ophelia nodded understanding that they couldn't have their future son in law all night. Alexios smiled at Skylar and said, As long as you have her home before midnight.... Soras rolled her eyes and said, He is totally kidding. Alexios laughed and said, I am, I am...

Skylar beamed at her mum when she said he had said what her father had said to her mums parents almost perfectly. Enjoying the way he had scored points by just being himself, it was a really good sign. He watched the way her mother smiled at her father and couldn't help but feel hope in watching them, he looked to Soras...hoping all his dreams for the would make them just as happy as the two people in front of them. Thank you both. It means the world to me that you accept us. I promise you won't regret it. He told them as he took the tea from Soras. He smiled into her eyes and took a sip of it.

He snuggled her as she sat beside him, Well...I've never really been roaming around here before...so I'm not really sure what this city has to offer...but I attend on taking you to a nice dinner...perhaps ice cream afterwords? And if we have time, before Midnight of course, He said with smirk at her father and a small smile, A moonlit walk where I can make a fool of myself by pouring my heart out to you.. He said with a sweet smile.

He held her hand in his for a long moment. Enjoying how small it was in his own....but fitting so perfectly with his as they laced fingers....he couldn't ask for a better match with him...he smiled at her as he waited for her to answer him.

Soras smiled at the same time as her dad, and her smile got even bigger when Alexios nodded and said, As long as you two are happy, we are happy. Soras snuggled Skylar and murmured, Thanks daddy. She loved looking into Skylar’s eyes, they were so deep and so understanding she could look into them for all eternity.
She giggled and said, Well we could go for some authentic Greek food, maybe some vegan Gyros, they use falaffles instead of lamb and beef. She knew that Skylar was a vegan and she was trying it out, she didn’t want to give up meat entirely but she would most definitely limit her intake. There is a really good ice cream shop near by too. Soras giggled and rolled her eyes when he smirked as he spoke about her curfew. Yeesh you two make me sound like Cinderella. She giggled and snuggled Skylar.
When he said the last bit she grinned and said, You better save time for me to pour my heart out to you as well my handsome love. All though I could start now by telling you that you are truly the most handsome man I have ever seen. She giggled and kissed his cheek gently. She rested her head on his shoulder and looked at their hands that were intertwined, they fit perfectly in every way. He completed her in ever sense of the word. She kissed his knuckles and smiled.
She looked at the clock and said, We should go. Ophelia and Alexios nodded and Alexios said, We aren’t stopping you. Besides the neighbors are coming over so we can just get new tea cups for them. Soras giggled and jumped up, Well that settles it. Come on love. We should go!
