NIKOLAI YURI ARSHAN
Yuri sat on the grass and sighed, he had been struggling with being at Durmstrang for months now. It was hard being a muggle born in a pure blood world. He'd been teased and even abused, his sanctuary was his friends, Sheldon, Shane, Kiri and Irene. He hadn't seen Kiri for a few days though she was so immensed in school that he'd only seen her once since being in the common room. He looked up at the forest in the distance, he closed his eyes and inhaled. He was at peace. He sighed feeling the weight of the world leaving his shoulders. Thats when he felt someone behind him and he tensed up. Maybe if he kept his eyes closed they'd go away.

Shane stared at his homework. Stared and stared and stared. He rubbed his eyes as the yellow candlelight bothered him. He needed out. And now. He folded up his work and pushed it to the middle of the table. Sure, he liked being away from his abusive father, but being at Durmstrang was nearly as bad. Shane was used to being in trouble and doing stupid things to get him there, but sometimes he got detentions for doing next to nothing. The entire Enkelt Kanin house was condemned for a title they didn't choose. Shane stood up and walked out of the common room.
The outside air was nice, and Shane regretted not having a plan. He always, always had a plan. Suddenly, an owl appeared what seemed out of nowhere and plopped a letter ont he ground in front of him. "Oh, so lovely. Poultry dropping mail." He muttered, picking up th enote and walking further out into the evening. Opening the letter, he realized it was from his father. Shane. You may be at Durmstrang for now, but don't forget you will come home. You left all your housework undone and your room a mess. We'll discuss this later. -Dad. Shane coffed and crumpled up the letter, throwing it as far as he could. "Discuss it? No. More like, let me beat you to a pulp when you get home." He muttered, shoving his hands in his pockets.
Out in the distance he saw a familiar figure sitting down. A slight grin played on Shane's lips as he approached Yuri. Shane made friends easily, usually. But Durmstrang was a different story, place, and environment. It was a lot like home. Yuri was the one he talked to. He hadn't yet divulged his abusive father, rahter he lied his ass off and made it believable. Explain the scars all over his body? Stupid pranks gone awry. He physically saw Yuri tense up as he walked behind him. Shane pulled out his wand and shoved it in Yuri's back. "Don't move, and I just might let you live," he said in a dark voice, imitating the teachers and other students that tormented them on a daily basis. Then he threw his wand next to Yuri and sat down.
"Why are you out here looking so...forlorn? Sullen? Sad?" he asked, faking interest and intense caring. Then he laughed. "Pretty good beating you took the other day. I say we form a revolt!" he said, throwing his fist in the air, and throw his head to the side to get the hair out of his face. He was truly playing with the idea of putting together a revolt for the Muggleborns. Plans upon plans upon pranks formed in his head every day. He never wrote them down, fearing someone would find them. "Let's just leave," he said, thinking that everyone would go home, and SHane would go...where? A box next to the subway in the Bronx. Yes, yes. "What's going on?" he asked, playing with a blade of grass and looking out toward the forest.

Yuri heard Shane's voice doing a horrible imitation of the professors and students and exhaled, Geeze man, you could have been a pureblood and killed me. And you come off with a joke. He laughed and play punched Shane in the leg, I'm out here reflecting, meditating or whatever you want to call it. I'm trying to find peace and you show up cracking jokes. Thanks though, I needed a laugh. Yuri didn't know Shane's whole story, the guy seemed very reserved and quiet when he wasn't cracking jokes or attempting pranks. I think if we revolted we'd be killed. If you're any louder one of the professors is just going to pop up and curse you or something. Yuri reached for his saddle bag and pulled out some potato chips and some cola, Kiri inspired me to smuggle in comforts of the muggle world, want some? He held out the potato chip bag and handed Shane a bottle of coke. Yuri sat there looking out at the trees chewing his chips and drinking his cola, Yeah then where would we go? I mean if we left, we would have to go home and face our families, personally my grandmother would never forgive me. She was so proud to say her grandson is going to Durmstrang. I think she was always ashamed that I came out all muggle born and stuff. My twin brother would just rub it in my face and attempt to abuse me, my father would go back to beating my mother...I can't just leave. Anything we deal with here is better than being neglected or thought of as trash...oh wait...thats whats going on here too isn't it. Yuri smiled and continued to eat his chips, At least here..we have a small family, we have each other and we can make it through this. Yuri reached into his bag and pulled out two hershey's chocolate bars, handing one to Shane and opening the other for himself, as he opened the wrapper he looked up and looked at the trees, This is what's going on. A few moments of guilty pleasures and peace before we return to the hell that we are forced to live in. He looked down at his patch on his shirt and frowned, I wish they didn't have us marked. I mean we're all magical, why can't we all just be at peace. Why does it always have to be about blood?

Shane sat down next to Yuri, taking in his more rational ideas than his own. He rubbed his leg a little more dramatically than he needed to and shrugged, glad to have made him laugh. It was his job, to make his friends laugh and forget all the crap that came with their suddenly awful every day lives. Okay, so not so suddenly. But what used to be so much fun for Shane, seemed to be awful these days. He hated school.
Yuri first handed him a coke and offered him some chips. It'd been a long time since he'd had chips and coke. Shane was an eater, and tended to eat and eat and eat. But seeing those chips and coke just brought a big smile to his face and he took some chips, munching on them quietly. Then Yuri told him a little about his homelife and anger started fill up in SHane's stomach...along with the chips. "Yeah. But if we left, I wouldn't go home anyway. I'd go somewhere I'd never been. LIke...I dunno....Washington." He laughed. "Besides, either here or home is about the same. Here I get beat, at home I get beat..honestly worse at home than here. THe difference is, someone here cares. I can be bleeding in the corner from my face, and my mom is passed out on the couch, man. Once I'm outta here, I'm gone. Long gone," he said, finishing his handful of chips and wiping his hands on his jeans.
Then Yuri gave him a candybar. It was a known fact not to give SHane caffeine, let alone caffeine plus sugar. He smiled and took the bar, opening it and chomping down immediately. "Do you have any idea what you're causing. I'm going to be bouncing off the walls all day, man." He said, laughing as half the bar was gone. He nodded. They really were like...branded, and they were all magical. Shane just wished they could all be magical together. "AH, I'm gonna ask Sophie Snape to like..bind my powers. THen they'll send me home, and I"ll run. I'll just...leave. SOunds like an awesome plan to me!" He said as he stuf the last bit of the chocolate bar in his mouth. "Hell is everywhere. We just have to beat it."

Yuri sat and ate his chips and listened to Shane talk about his home life. He couldn't remember Shane being so open with him before. He looked over and said, As far as fucked up home lives go...you take the cake. I'm sorry man, its gotta suck. You get double doses huh? Yuri took another chip and a sip of his cola. He swallowed and said, So whats so special in Washington? Or would it be just cause? He looked out at the forest and said, Personally I'd go to New Zealand or even China, America just seems so bland and the people don't care about where they live. If I could I would never go back to Russia. His life was bad but no where near as bad as Shane's and he felt bad for the kid, no one deserved this hell but Shane got it twice as bad. You have a whole common room that cares about you dude. We may not be much but we count for something. I was thinking that once this is all over, we being me you and Sheldon should get a flat. He thought about Kiri and missed Irene, they were girls afterall they could crash but not live with them. It would just be to hard to deal with all the girly things around the house. Then again Irene was blind so she never fussed with make up or anything like that. He grinned and toasted Shane with his coke, I do know what I'm causing, I'm causing entertainment for the masses and trouble for the professors. He winked at Shane and continued to drink his soda. Yuri looked over at his and raised an eyebrow. You don't need to bind your powers dude, and does that even work? The only way that the ministry would be able to keep track of you is through the trace, so just run away and live out in the forest and learn to hunt and stuff like that then when you turn 17 you can use magic all you want and no one can bother you. He looked back out and heard Shane speak of Hell as it was all around them, And the devil makes beauty like this to fool us into thinking that we actually have a chance of living.

Shane finished his cola and the candy bar, wondering if Yuri really did know what was going to happen now that Shane had had sugar and caffeine. It wasn't like he'd go completely crazy, he would jsut have more energy than he normally did...and that was saying something. It wasn't that Shane was looking for someone to agree that his life was hell at home...he just...felt like sharing. HEaring Yuri say he took the cake honestly gave him some pride...but mostly sadness. Someone really did agree that his life was hell at home. That scared him. Did no one else in this God forsaken place have a similar life? Was his really that bad? Sighing, Shane looked back over at Yuri.
"Well...Washington jsut...nothing's there. But...you're right. We should get a place and live outside of the US. That way my dad will never find me. He wouldn't have a clue where to begin!" Yuri was right. He had a whole common room full of people who cared. That was more than he'd ever had before. Sure, they were considered misfits, but Shane would take garden gnomes against his parents and going home. No one ever cared before...this was new. "We'll get through it. I mean...I don't think people necessarily want us dead, they just don't want us around." Shane stood up and grabbed a rock, throwing it as far as he could. As he stood though, he was forming an idea. It really was some sort of rebellion, or revolution. It may be a bad idea, but unless they started voicing their opinions, no one would ever do anything. "You can't do the same thing every day, Yuri, expecting different results. We have to be the difference. We have to do something." He thought back over the stories he'd heard about the war and the different things the students did. Shane always had a thing for the Weasley twins. He'd read about them and even gone to their store a few times. Although the one twin had died in the war, the other was still running that store like there were two of them. He was slowly forming his plan, and his eyes showed it, the intensity, the excitement. The adventure. Sure they could all get caught and tortured, but if any of them died, the school would be in trouble. "I have a plan," he said the infamous Shane Dorsal words as he slowly looked over at his friend.[/blockquote]

Yuri nodded, Shane I have a pretty bad life at home too, but I always tell myself that things will get better. Maybe if and when you run away, keep away from America. You're dad will be hell bent to find you. He sighed and looked out, listening to Shane's reasoning. He nodded and said, Some don't want us around but I'm sure there are those in the school that want us dead. Even if they don't do it, they still are willing to kill us because of our blood. He was glad that Shane was considered family, he even cared for Sheldon like a brother too, Kiri was like his sister and Irene was the girl he wanted in his life. He looked over and raised an eyebrow, And what do you suggest? We egg their common rooms? Blow up their homework, make them slip on ice or set their pants on fire? Yes we have to be different to make a difference but at the same time if we do try to make a difference, we can get expelled, or thrown in the lake, or even beaten to the point of death. He laid down on the grass and looked up at the clouds, his eyes squinting in the sunlight. They don't take to kindly to our blood, or the views of those who do take kindly to us. I mean you remember that one girl that got killed shortly after we got here....she was Kiri's best friend. He sighed and shrugged squinting up at the clouds. He then heard Shane say he had a plan and looked over at him. He could feel his excitement kick in. He jumped up and said, Tell me. He grinned, he was tired of being melancholy and when he heard those four fateful words he was genuinely excited.

Shane grinned, biting his bottom lip. He paced a little, still in thought. Shane had plans left and right. He was always in trouble. His plans were good, the problem was that they were always halfassed. They were never fully thought out. Althought "I have a plan" were Shane's favorite words and well known at that, five more words were also just as famous, just forgotten. "I didn't think that far." Shane thought some more. Sure, they could get into trouble, but they were constantly in a life or death situation. "Well, yeah, but if something's worth fighting for, isn't your life? Whether you mean your real life, or your freedom? I've been fighting for my life my entire life! I don't care if I die. Eventually it'll be in history books. Even the slaves got chapters and chapters worth eventually, right? So so will we!" Shane lectured, all the while pacing and hardly looking at his friend as he thought and thought.
"George Weasley. We need his help. If we set things right, it might work. We get some stuff from his shop, and use it during classes, during tests. We set things up to explode, to fire, to slither during classes adn tests! And if we get caught, you know as well as I do they'll think it was all me. It's next to flawless!" he said excitedly, clapping his hands and looking at Yuri. "Whadya say? Wanna help?" he asked. "We only do it in classes of professors who hate us. It'll be grande, yes??" he nodded emphatically and smiled. It was clear that plans and adventures were Shane's passion, whether they were thought out or not. He didn't care about getting caught, it was the act in the moment. The fun, the excitement. It was worth his life.[/blockquote]
