It was mid-October and it was already too cold for Shay to want to be outside. Well, in her defense, it had been too cold for her to want to be outside since September but that’s beside the point. Norway was way too cold for her to be honest and when she had to be outside to walk to classes or whatever, she missed the warmth that Brazil had always given her. Sometimes she thought about going back, but she wasn’t old enough, and despite the terrible weather, she was happy here; she had friends, and an awesome best friend, and not to mention…she was almost certain she was in love. She wasn’t entirely sure, but what she felt for Cayden was something amazing and impossible to describe…but she had asked Mikayla of course and she had told her that was love and she should tell him.
Shay would, but when the time was right and the time wasn’t right now because he was busy doing Head Boy things and she was, well, bored. She was in the library, trying to find some sort of secret to not failing horribly at Dark Arts class because she knew it was coming up soon and she knew she was doomed to fail. From what she was reading, she knew that she needed negative emotions or whatever….and that really wasn’t something she was going to be able to do. She was probably the happiest person ever, and she had never really even been mad at anyone in her life. Maybe she needed someone to help her…but right now she could just use anyone to talk to.

Sophie was given a writing assignment in charms. Why? Because she'd blown up her table with her wand. Well, that was hardly her fault. But instead, the professor decided to allow her to write a paper on the spell she'd failed at instead of trying over and over again and continually blowing things up. She'd smiled with an attitude and left, heading for the library. There was absolutely nothing she would ever go to the library for. Sophie didn't study. She thought it was a waste of time. Either you knew the material or you didn't. No amount of going over and over it was going to engrain it into her head. Sure, she did her homework and such, but studying? No. She opened the big doors and was greeted with.....
silence.
"Oh, for the love of everything magical, someone say something!" she said loudly, stamping her foot. A few students looked her way. Some rolled their eyes, knowing she was always doing something stupid, or their jaws dropped. Sophie covered her mouth and her eyes got wide. "Oh, no," she mocked at the students who were shocked at her, "am I too loud?" she laughed, and shook her head, finally stepping fully into the library. She literally skipped by a table of students studying and tapped each one on the head before continuing down the main aisle. Eventually, she turned down one of the little aisles, and who was at the other end but Shay.
Shay. Sophie had no idea what to really do wit her. She was obviously head over heels for Cayden, who Sophie had learned to love like the brother she never had....or the one she did have and never knew....or knew where to find him....Anyway, Sophie never knew how to react to Shay. She was pretty for sure, and super nice. But Sophie could care less about that! It was just so much fun to torment the girl. "Shay, Shay, Shay. What are you---" Sophie stopped and waited, delving into the girl's mind just enough to see what it was she was doing in the library. Sure, Sophie was sloppy with her mind, but she usually didn't go where she had no business going. Unless she wanted revenge; but that was a different story. "Oh...." She smiled her crooked little smile and walked down the aisle, her fingers tracing the books ont he shelves as she made her way to Shay. "Dark Arts got you down, love? Happy girl can't figure out how to be unhappy?" she asked, making a little pouty face at Shay. Once she got to Shay, Sophie sighed. "It's not that hard, you know, finding something to bring you down. Want help?' she smiled evilly again and leaned in close, whispering. "What if you fell in love with Cayden, and he didn't reciprocate?" Sophie gasped and brought her hand up to her mouth. Sophie had no idea if they were even in love; she could easily find out Shay's feelings for him...or thoughts, anyway. However, that was far more than she wanted to know. She looked at Shay, her regular expressionless expression on her face.

Shay had heard the loud noise probably near the front of the library but she really didn’t pay very much attention to whoever might have made the noise. She was too into her books to even turn in that direction. There was a stack of book sitting next to her, probably about 6 books tall, all about the Dark Arts; spells, hexes, and hopefully, how to get better at them. It was strange for her, to have trouble in classes (well, except flying, but that was a different story), and having to study this hard for a class she hadn’t even had yet was troubling her. She closed her book, after reading something about a spell that could make someone vomit their own intestines, she wasn’t sure if she even wanted to read anymore…she also felt as if she could vomit right now at the thought of someone doing that to someone else.
Putting it to the side, she picked up another book and began to skim through it. As she made it to something about the killing curse, she heard her name from the other end of the hall. It was Sophie, Cayden’s sister of sorts. Shay had been trying to make friends with the girl since they met not too long ago, but for some reason, it seemed Sophie wasn’t having it. This was also frustrating since Shay could be friends with anyone…maybe Sophie was just stubborn. It didn’t surprise her though, that Sophie knew what Shay was thinking before she made it all the way to her. Cayden had said something about her legilimency and occlumency skills but she really hadn’t seen her use them yet. Yes actually. I cant figure out how to get the right kind of emotions for these spells. Even just looking at some of them makes me want to throw up. Shay really was too nice for this school. This was a school that was heavily focused on learning the Dark Arts, and as far as she knew, it was the only magical school that actually taught them as a class. Her brother would pick a school that would focus on something she was incapable of doing to send her to…or maybe he just didn’t know. He had gone to the Brazilian Wizarding Academy just like she had, and they certainly didn’t teach the Dark Arts, or anything associated with it.
Shay was curious as to how Sophie was going to “help” bring her down, but when she did, all it really did was make her kinda sad. She pouted, her bottom lip puffing out a bit. That would be really sad… She said looking down at her hands for a second. What if that happened? She wasn’t even entirely sure if she loved Cayden or not at this point, but the thought of her falling in love with him and him just, not was sort of terrifying. It totally made her second think telling him about what she was feeling and she was now certain she would hold off on that for a later date. I thought I was supposed to feel mad or hatred or something. Sadness doesn’t seem like it would be enough negative emotion. She said, shaking off the sadness a bit.

Sophie had been through enough sadness throughout her own life to understand the order of feelings. "Oh, dear Shay, you have misunderstood me." Sophie sighed and took the girl's arm through her own and lead her down the aisle to a table in an open studying area. Each table had a candleholder holding three candles in it. Sophie pulled out a chair and set her books down on the table. "Shay, first comes the sadness, then the pain. Behind the pain is a masking anger. That's what you want. Right?" Sophie let her head rest on her hand as she turned to look at Shay.
She found Shay boring, especially today. Sophie pulled out her wand and set it on the table. The wand was really more of a death wand than anything else. Every time she used it something blew up or broke or...sometimes an animal they were supposed to be turning into something may or may not have but definitely did die. It was true that the silent spells worked better, but not best. Simply using her mind to make happen what they wanted to happen, worked easiest. A slow, and yet cunning, idea, started making its way into Sophie's head. "Shay," she said slowly, moving her wand in cirlces on the table with her finger. "I have a plaaaan." Sophie picked up her wand and pointed it at the table in front of them. The incantation to turn the candles at that table into mice came to mind. She said the words, and immediately her wand backfired, flying out of her hand, while the chair remained, well, a chair. "I will help you with your Dark Arts. If you help me with my charms. We all know I need help there." What Sophie failed to let on is that while helping her with her dark arts work, Sophie would have a clear view of Shay's head; with and without her consent. Sophie smiled her crooked smile and shrugged. "It's up to you of course, love, but it could be fun." She put on her fake sweet voice as she spoke, sure that Shay knew it was a mockery, but the plan was real. Even in getting nastiness out of it, Sophie could use the help with charms, and she just wouldn't be able to help herself when it came to Shay's thoughts and memories when helping her with her dark arts. It was a flawless plan.

Shay was slightly confused as to why Sophie was taking her arm and moving them to another table, but she wasn’t going to say anything. If they were going to move, then Sophie probably had a good reason for doing it. Shay brought a couple of her books with her and took a seat across from the one Sophie pulled out for herself; as she listened to her explain what she had to go through to get to the emotion she needed. It sounded like a lot of work and it also sounded like it was going to be a very painful experience. That sounds…really hard. I don’t think I’ve ever really been angry before so this might actually be a lost cause. She tried to explain to Sophie. This almost seemed to difficult to warrant trying, but she really didn’t want to fail, or look bad in front of Cayden when they attended the class, so she was just going to have to suck it up and try.
Shay watched as Sophie took out her wand and set it on the table, moving it slowly in circles with her finger. She really didn’t see a reason for her to be doing that since they really weren’t doing anything that required wands at the moment, and Shay’s was tucked inside of her long sock where she had placed it earlier. Yes…? She cocked her head to the side slightly as Sophie expressed her thought of a “plan”. She watched as Sophie tried to apparently turn the candles on the table into something, but saw that her wand didn’t feel like cooperating. You should really get your wand checked out or something…its like it doesn’t like you or something and that cant be right if it chose you. Maybe its broken or something? She raised an eyebrow as she slipped her wand from her sock and pointed it at one of the candles, not uttering any words but saying the spell in her head as one of the candles turned into a furry little adorable mouse and ran around the table for a moment before Shay waved her wand again, returning it to a random candlestick that was lying on the table. That sounds like a good plan, since I know I’m really going to need help with this whole Dark Arts business and Charms is kind of one of my strong subjects. This was sure to be an interesting co-tutoring lesson, but it would benefit both of them so Shay didn’t see any harm in doing it.

Sophie shrugged. Maybe Shay really didn't know a time when she was angry. For Sophie, she was sad first, then gave in to the anger, usually doing something stupid afterward. She watched as Shay easily turned the candle into a mouse, catching it just in time to turn it back into a candle. Damn. Sophie just couldn't muster up what she needed to get those charms to work for her. "It's not my wand, princess. It's my head. My head works better than my wand. Watch!" she put her wand down and squinted while looking at the candles on the table in front of them. It turned into a mouse and started running. Unlike Shay, Sophie let the mouse run off the table, ralling to the ground and scamper away. "My wand is just an accessory."
She thought about Shay's problem with anger. If she'd never truly been angry or upset, then Sophie didn't really know how to help her. She looked at Shay and gave her a dirty look. "You're serious, I can tell. You've never truly gotten angry, have you? Well, how in the world do you expect to do well in Dark Arts if you have absolutey no darkness in you....and what the hell does Cayden see in you if....you two are so different," she muttered, letting her head fall to the table. "Haven't you done anything bad before? Like....set something on fire? Or...cursed someone? Stolen something? Anything?!" Sophie asked loudly, gaining them a few dirty looks from studying students. She gave them dirty looks before sitting up again. "How can I help you? You have no anger, and I'm full of it. So...what do you suggest?" she asked, digging in her bag for a pocket knife that revealed itself at the bottom. Sophie opened the little knife and started carving into the wooden table.

Shay watched as Sophie performed the spell just about flawlessly once she got rid of her wand. Wandless magic wasn’t an easy thing to get down so it sort of surprised her to see her do it so well. As she watched the mouse run off the table and wondered if she should catch it and turn it back, but she decided to just let it run off. Why not just, not use your wand? You’re amazing at wandless magic. I cant do anything except heal without my wand really. She admitted, looking down at her wand for a moment. She was sure if Sophie asked her teachers, she would be able to just not use her wand and that would probably cause significantly less damage to things.
No, I’ve really never been angry. I never really, prepared myself to take Dark Arts class since at my old school we didn’t take it. Shay blushed as Sophie asked what Cayden saw in her. I really don’t know what he sees in me…but I’m glad he sees whatever it is… She looked down at her fingers, trying not to look Sophie in eyes. Thinking about her questions, she bit her lip before she answered. Um…as far as I can recall, no I have never stolen anything, or set anything on fire…and why would I curse someone? That’s mean… She pouted a bit as some of the students looked at them funny. Um…I really don’t know what to suggest. Maybe I’m just doomed to fail this class. Unless you suggest I…do something bad? She asked hesitantly. Shay really had not one bad bone in her body so she really didn’t know how she would pull off doing anything remotely bad.

Sophie looked at Shay. She meddled, just slightly in the girl's head, hoping she didn't notice. She was right; Shay had never done anything remotely bad. Or, anything Sophie would call bad. Rolling her eyes, Sophie looked at Shay. Then she said what Sophie was hoping she'd say. Doing something bad....that only got Sophie's head working in about five different directions of ten different things they could possibly do. "Bad....that just might work. You're right, though. I just shouldn't use my wand. Life would be easier for the world if I didn't...come on!" Sophie said, jumping up and taking Shay by the arm.
Now, one of her ideas about how to get in trouble and do something bad had to appeal to Shay; at least a little. Halfway down the main aisle of the library, Sophie stopped and took in a loud breath, (she's such a very dramatic young lady). "I have an idea! Puffer-fish eyes. We need a lot of puffer-fish eyes," She said, putting one hand on her hip and a finger to her lip in thought. The plan would work and would be really funny if Shay was up for it. "A simple swelling solution," she started muttering and pacing. Then she stopped and looked at Shay nastily. "But how do I know I can trust you? How do I know you're not going to run around tattling on me because I hurt someone? Hm??" she asked, getting really very close to Shay. Sophie wasn't going to play the game of Find Shay Something Bad To Do if she was just going to run around telling teachers what she did. "Hm?" she asked again, hands on her hips.

Shay realized, she probably shouldn’t have suggested she do something bad. Especially when the idea hit Sophie, and it seemed as though her mind was going a million directions at once. What was she planning? Would she get in trouble for this because Shay really hated to be in trouble…not that she had really ever been in trouble before? As Sophie took her arm and pulled her along with her, she really wondered what she had gotten herself into by her terribly thought out suggestion.
She followed (well, more was dragged by) Sophie through the library until they reached the main aisle when Sophie started to say something about them needing a large amount of puffer-fish eyes. Now, there are a lot of things that can be done with puffer-fish eyes, and none of them were very nice. Puffer-fishes were rather poisonous and even their eyes had some poisonous qualities, being the main ingredient in things that tended to cause swelling…and Shay was right. Sophie’s idea was for a swelling solution. What they were going use it for was beyond her but it couldn’t be very nice. Shay was interrupted from her thoughts by Sophie being very close to her face. Um…because telling on you would be mean. And…because if I gave you the idea practically and that would make me an accomplice and we would both get in trouble anyway… She said softly, biting her lip.

Sophie smiled, looking passed Shay completely. She also bit her lip, but more so in thought than anything else. The swelling solution was easy enough, it was what they would do with it once the potion was made. Sure, a few different ideas skipped around in her head, but the perfect one had yet to stick. "C'mon, goody goody. Let's go," she said, nearly running down the aisle. She counted the side aisles until she found the one she was looking for. "Here," she said, dragging Shay down the aisle. Sophie let her index finger slowly go over the spines of the books on the shelves. She was obviously looking for a specific book. Once she found the book she wanted, she pulled it out. It was entitled, How to Train a House Elf. Sophie smiled. "Irritating creatures, really. They have no choice but to follow the directions of their master, but they don't do it willingly, nor do they do it with a pleasant attitude. So, hence this book....and hence our potion," she slid her tongue between her teeth as she flipped through pages of the book.
"This!" she said loudly, reading the page and walking to a nearby table. "There's this house elf, that cleans the rooms of Mork Ulv. More than one probably, but I know this one in particular; I've seen him around. One night I went into my room and he was there, cleaning, and said some very nasty things about my heritage. Me being a halfblood and also being a Snape. We're going to get him back. With my potion, and with some very enticing ideas from this book," Sophie said, almost evilly, as she pushed the book over to Shay. Sighing, Sophie continued. "Don't worry. It won't hurt the elf. Just...scare him. Unless, of course, the potion swells and swells and swells causing him to explode. In which case we'll deny having anything to do with it!"

Shaylyn watched as Sophie probably pondered millions of different ideas that she could do with that swelling solution. Of course, Shay knew how to brew a swelling solution, but that was one of those potions that once brewed she could never figure out what they would be used for. What purpose could a swelling solution possibly serve? When is there ever a time when you need something to swell. As she thought about all of these things, Sophie seemed to have gotten an idea and yet again dragged her down the aisles to find a certain book or so it seemed. Shay really wasn’t sure what section they were in but when Sophie pulled out a book called “How to Train A House Elf” she knew this was probably not going to be a good idea. She listened to her show her distain for house elves and just by what she was saying, Shay was already getting a nervous knot in her stomach thinking about what could possibly be going through Sophie’s mind. House elves aren’t that bad really…at least I don’t think so… She said, looking down at her shoes and not at the book Sophie was flipping through because she really didn’t want to know what she was planning for them to do.
Shay really wished she had just never suggested anything and that way they might have just stayed at their quiet little table, or maybe Sophie would have gotten bored with her and left, which was what usually happened. But not, Shay had to open her big mouth and now look where she was. Shay listened to Sophie speak of the elf that wronged her and glanced down at the book as it was shown to her. She didn’t read it really, because, this was all way too much for her and she really didn’t want to know all that much about Sophie’s evil plan to begin with. Wouldn’t it be easier to just report this one elf to the Headmaster or something and have him dealt with in that manner instead of…swelling him to unnatural proportions. This is just mean… She said with a frown as she pushed the book back towards Sophie.

Sophie snorted, and laughed. She knew that Shay was, what, a goody toe shoes, or something like that. It was one of the main reasons why they really didn't usually get along. Sophie was always pestering Shay and Cayden anyway. Shay was really too boring. For Sophie anyway. She sighed and wondered if SHay would even go through with the idea. She was probably all for the house elves. Sophie hated them. They always glared at her and said nasty things to her. She wondered why; she never said or did anything to them before. Well, before this current idea of hers seeped into her brain.
THen a whole new idea came to her. She stopped all other ideas she'd been pondering, and looked at Shay. "I need blood from a family member of mine. But I don't have any family. But I do have a timeturner. The problem is, it's broken. COuld you help me fix it? Then we can go to the past any time we want!" She said, her eyes wide with excitement. Sophie figured that if anyone went to her dead uncles past with her, she pick Shay. She wouldnt run around telling everyone what they'd seen, and she would keep her mouth shut...she figured. "C'mon!" She said, grabbing Shay's arm and dragging her out of the library, leaving the book on elves on the table they'd been sitting at. Sophie was too excited. If Shay could fix the time turner, they were homefree and in a lot of luck.

Shay wondered what Sophie had done to make the house elves not like her. She herself hadn’t actually seen much of the house elves around the school, which meant they were doing their job, but the couple she had seen when she was up studying late at night were always polite to her. They didn’t really say much to her, other than offer her something to drink or something before they were back to their work and off again. House elves, to Shay, really were pleasant creatures and she had no idea why someone would want to harm them. Which was why she was glad when Sophie seemed to formulate a new plan…one that involved less…dramatic engorgement of small innocent creatures.
Although, this new plan…seemed risky and actually pretty dangerous if they didn’t pull it off correctly. Hmm…I’m not like, terribly skilled in fixing magical artifacts…plus I thought all the time turners were destroyed a few years back…but I’m sure I can be of some sort of help. I’m not really entirely sure how I can be of help, but I’m willing to help if this is the new plan? Shay certainly liked this new plan a whole lot more than the other two Sophie had come up with. Not because of the possibility of traveling to the past because honestly Shay really had no need to travel to the past, but because this plan didn’t involve causing harm to anyone and that made her happy.

Sophie rolled her eyes. Everyone always said that all of something was destroyed, but that was never the case. There was always one left, or some that were 'broken' and only needed some fixing. Shay was really dense. Dense and...too soft. Sophie sighed and continued dragging down to the dungeons where they could work on that time turner she had in her bag. She honestly had forgotten about it until just then. "They weren't all destroyed, obviously. I have one!" she said snottily and dug it out of her bag, shoving it into Shay's palm. She pushed open a big wooden door and shoved Shay through it, following her as the door slammed shut. She pushed past Shay and started down the narrow and winding staircase to the dungeons.
"It's obvious that I can't use my wand. You can try a simple charm and see if it works. If not...we'll try something else. You're the smart one when it comes to charms and stuff...figure it out." Sophie had never been able to actually be in her uncle's past. She'd been there, as in the pensieve, but to be there, physically, would be unimaginable. She could touch him, actually smell and feel what was going on durign the battle. That timeturner was important, and the way she got it would remain a mystery and just a mere thought of Shay's. No one needed to know how she came to receive the tiny golden object. [/size]

Shay sighed slightly as Sophie dragged her wherever it was they were going. She assumed they were going to get this broken time turner but who knew where that was going to be. Right now she was basically just keeping her mouth shut and letting Sophie lead her wherever they needed to go so that they could get this over with. Even though she liked this plan a whole lot more than the other plans she had come up with, but she didn’t really want to be involved either way. All she really wanted to do was be back in the library studying and trying to figure out the Dark Arts like she had been before. This was far too much for her to be involved with right now, but she had already agreed so there wasn’t much she could do about it anyway.
As Sophie handed her the broken time turner, Shay looked it over in her hands as she was still being dragged wherever they were going. It doesn’t look too badly damaged. There’s just a few cracks and…this spinney thing is bent, but it shouldn’t be exceptionally hard to fix. She continued to look it over as they walked and as Sophie spoke, wondering if a simple repairing charm would be all it would take to fix something this magically complicated. It could work, since it hadn’t been tried yet, but if not Shay could probably figure out a stronger spell to use. Charms was one of her best subjects after all so it could work…I have a couple of ideas…but we would kind of need to stop walking and get to our final destination before I can start working… She sighed, as they walked down a staircase towards the dungeons.
