[[You need to read through the Professor’s post which ranges from the beginning of the class to the end. You will need to then respond leaving a post of your character being in class and participating. (only need to post once)For every student who attends class and leaves a post 10 points will rewarded for his or her House ( YOU must meet word requirement of 150 words to count for full credit, if it doesn’t not you will only receive five points for participation rewarded to your house) There is also a Hw assignment at the end of the post! This must be turned in through P.M by May 5th for a total of 40 Points towards each student’s House…if you don’t turn in the assignment you will lose 20 point towards your house points. Thank you!]]
Jayden walked to the West Tower alone around seven pm. The students wouldn’t arrive till eight but he wanted to be sure the lesson plan was ready for them when they arrived. He took out the note cards he had written with key words to help him remember the points and quickly went over them a few times before pocketing them… It was the first lesson of the year and relatively an easy one at that. He was sure the students should be able to grasp the information and apply it well. As long as they actually paid attention…not that he’d accept any less from them.
He stood in front of the large telescope that sat near the large open window in the classroom and quickly got to work adjusting it until it set in the position he needed for the lesson. Some dust came off of it onto the sleeves of his black jacket and he quickly shook it off…the equipment had sat for quite a while alone while over the summer.
He smiled a pure white smile as he turned to greet the group of students who entered the classroom. He didn’t say anything until he was sure that the total amount of students on his roster was in the classroom. Good evening everyone. To those who did not get the chance to meet me last year…My name is Jayden Oliver Sage, your Astronomy Professor. Please note… through Astrology is mentioned in our class we are not here to study Divinations….if you want to make predictions you need to be in Divinations class. We are here to study the scientific and beautiful art that is Astronomy. While you are in my class you are Astrologers…and you will behave as such. Why should you care about Astronomy some of you may be asking yourselves, Astronomy is one of the oldest natural sciences and magics known to all of muggle and wizarding kind (though we have a greater knowledge of it and it’s uses!) From what we know the study of the stars began in Assyria and Babylon, who were the first to study eclipses and the positions of the planets around us. From the beginning of humanity, all have been captured by the rising and setting of the sun, the changing of the seasons, and the phases of the moon. They knew there was a connection between the sky above and the world that surrounded them. In the ancient times it was believed that all movements a human makes are implicated by the stars above. We study the star because it hide all the answers we seek. In my class you will be expected to learn and understand Constellations. We will use Astronomy to understand our seasons, tides, eclipses, the sun, the tilt of earth’s axis. We will even be tested at the end of the year with a Navigation test…without the use of wands or compasses…only the stars will be your guide home. He paused a moment to let the class soak in what he had already told them…he stared up into the sky as he did this without a glance at the class, It would be such a beautiful night to fly He thought before turning back to the class.
What are the benefits of Astronomy? Astronomy helps us understand how the sun gives us the very energy we need to live. Astronomy helps understand how radiation from the sun controls our atmosphere and the weather. Astronomy helps you understand how the Earth’s axis changes the sky from day to night. Astronomy well help you understand how the axial tilt gives us season and how the sun and the moon give us tides. Astronomy shows you how the moon causes eclipse…we will end the year with the study of Astronomy’s gift of natural navigation. You may have asked yourself…why can’t I see stars all the time? Stars do shine during the day. The main reason we don't see them is that the light from the sun is much brighter than that of other stars on earth and therefore blocks out the light of other stars at daytime.
He smiled and moved to the telescope, he looked through the lens at the constellation in the sky. He quickly called forward each individual student to allow them to see the constellation themselves then took his place back into the center of the room… My personal favorite constellation is from Greek Mythology . Scorpius who is also know as Scorpio is one of constellations of the Zodiac. Scorpius is Latin for Scorpion. The symbol for Scorpius is . Scorpius lies between Libra to the west and Sagittarius to the east. He paused to give his next words a define separation, Orion was known to be better than the goddess Artemis However he said, that Artemis was better than he was which won the affection of Artemis. Her brother however, who was the god Apollo (Artemis’s twin) grew furious and sent a scorpion to attack Orion. Orion was soon slain by the Scorpion. Because of Artemis’ affection towards Orion, she asked Zeus to put Orion up into the sky. So no when you look into the night sky every winter Orion hunts in the sky, but every summer he flees as the constellation of the scorpion comes for him.
He pulled out pack of papers and smiled , This is your assignment…it is due by the 5th of May. You need to find a constellation, no you may not do Scorpius…and you need to write a 5-8 sentence paragraph on one of the myth’s of the constellation as well as answer three facts in bullet points below it: How many stars does the Constellation Consist of? Does it related to an Astrological sign? If yes state which one and the Astrological time period? And what is the brightest star of the Constellation.
Jayden dismissed his class at eleven after finishing instructing them on the assignment due soon. He thought most of them grasped it and he was relieved that he didn’t have to punish any one on the first day of class for misbehavior.
