Lesson one: The art of tarot Kerli was ready for her first class. She was dressed simply, in a white t-shirt, black vest, black pants, with a black robe over the whole outfit. It was tame based off of what she normally wore but then again she did not want to scare off any of the students. In the front of the class room she set up a table with a black velvet cloth and set out several different tarot decks. She tapped the board at the front of the room, making a tarot diagram appear.
She was somewhat nervous to give her first lesson but she was sure that she would do well. She hoped that she could share her love of Divination with at least one other student. The sign up sheet had only three names on it. She let everyone know that she would take day of sign ups as well, hoping that she could get at least a few more students. She understood that Divination was not a very popular class, she just hoped to have more students.
The students entered the class room and found there seats. When they settled down she smiled at them and said, Hello class my name is Professor Kerlishna Yeshina, I know that's a mouthful so if you want you may call me Kerli. Now I hope that you all read the first chapter in your books. For those who are joining day of I will give you a short summery of the cards. Tarot Cards are used for fortune telling. They are broken up into the major Arcana known as the greater secrets and the minor Arcana known as the lesser secrets. The major Arcana are 22 cards without suits. The minor is 56 cards in four suits, commonly coins, wands, swords and cups. The minor cards have ace through 10 as well as four face cards King, Queen, knight and page. Each card has a meaning both forward and reversed, also known as inverted. The card has a meaning in itself and the place where the card is drawn also has a meaning which is dictated on the board. How you read the cards is to shuffle the cards, then have who you are doing the reading for cut the cards wherever they wish. Then ask the person if they would like you to pull from the top, bottom or middle. If they say middle pull from where the person cut the cards. Then place the cards face down in the order said on the board. The cards are either right side up or inverted based on the way they face you not the person you are reading for. Turn over each card side to side and read them one at a time you are not expected to know what each card means you may look up each meaning in the book accompanying the cards. For today's lesson everyone shall come to the front of the room, get a deck and read a partners cards using the diagram on the board. If we have a number of odd students whoever does not have a partner may come partner with me. Everyone must read the cards at least once. Please record in your homework books what you have learned. Shane sat in his seat, slouched adn looking at the teacher. First chapters? He did'n tknow he had to read anything. He gave the teacher a dirty look; one of confusion and frustration. Then his face changed. If he had known he had to read, he wouldn't have done it anyway, so it really didn't matter. But tarot cards? He'd worked on Divination at Hogwarts and although he hadn't been great at it, he was decent. So he wasn't too worried about his work in this class today. Immediately, Shane raised his hand. "I have a question! I want to go first." He said, standing up and heading to the front of the room. Although he was up in the front of the room, he realized he didn't have a partner. Shit. He pursed his lips, threw his hair out of his face, and looked at the teacher. "I changed my mind," he whispered, "I'll go last." With that, he winked and headed back to his table, taking a deck of cards on the way. "I'll just be taking these and....looking through them." He said nonchalantly, heading to his desk, feeling the need to laugh rise in his chest as he'd just made a huge fool of himself.

Shay really, truthfully had no interest in Divination so she really wasn’t sure why she signed up for it. But since she did, she was going to give it her best effort and see whether she might actually be able to gain an interest in it. It might have been that back at the Brazilian Wizarding school, they had a really boring Divination teacher who really didn’t teach them anything at all…he had no special divination powers and he really was just teaching lessons out of the book and probably didn’t understand any of it himself anyway. That was why she dropped that class as soon as she was able to back then. Maybe this teacher would be more interesting and help her understand what she was actually supposed to be doing in the first place.
She sat in her seat as the professor went over the lesson…Tarot Cards apparently. She had never studied them before and knew literally nothing about them aside from what she learned in the chapter of the book they were supposed to read. She was about to go up to the desk and take a deck of cards when a guy raised his hand saying he wanted to go first but then changed his mind. That made Shay curious and as she went up after him to get her deck of cards she didn’t go back to her seat but instead followed him to his seat. Hey, would you want to be partners? She asked with a sweet smile.

Shane sat down and realized someone had followed him. He knew her as Shay and she seemed very nice. She'd been nice to him before in classes and in the halls, but they'd never really had a conversation. Shane sighed and shrugged. "If you think you can find my future in these tarot cards, then by all means, you can be my partner," he said, standing up and bowing like a knight to a princess. "Take a seat, M'Lady, and I"ll read your...cards," he said, sitting down and shuffling his cards. "Wanna cut the deck, M'Lady?" he asked, holding out his cards to her and jerking his head to the side to get the hair out of his face. "You can go first, cuz...you're....a lady." He winked, still holding the cards out for her to cut. He never liked divination, however, he seemed to be halfway decent at it at Hogwarts, so he'd signed up for the class at Durmstrang. There were lots of pretty girls in the class, none of which seemed to truly be his type, but they were pretty anyway. And Shay was nice, and pretty, and asked to be his partner. Shane was pretty sure he'd chosen the right class, and grinned at himself for being so super smart.

Shay was glad when he said he would be her partner but honestly she had no idea if she could tell his future from the cards. I’m not really sure I can read these cards correctly, let alone tell your future from them but I can try. I read the chapter and all but I’m not really good with this type of stuff… She said with a half-smile. Her smile grew into a full one as he bowed to her for some reason she had no idea of and asked her to take a seat. Sure it was unconventional, but it was sweet and polite so she didn’t really mind as she took the seat across from him. She cut the deck as he asked her to, taking the exactly half of the deck from the middle and placing it down on the table. Like that? She asked curiously. This class was never going to be one of her best, no matter how many times she read the chapters.

Adalynn walked into the Divination classroom and looked around shyly...and back at the board in the front of the room. She bit her lip in nervousness. She wasn't really sure what the fates would have for her since she was a fae. She nervously grabbed a deck of cards from the front of the room, smiling at the Professor as she passed her. She turned back to look around the room and then at the other students...two of them had already paired up but there was a girl who sat alone. She decided to join her, Hello. She said in her sweet Australian accent, My name is Adalynn Mae Shimura. Mind if we work together? She gave her a nervous but sweet smile as she looked her over. For a human the girl was very pretty. She watched as she shuffled her deck, You do that so well...I've never shuffled cards before and never worked with the tarot...do you know how this works?

Shane nodded. "It seems you've done it right!" he said loudly like a spokeperson for a gameshow. He smiled and fixed the deck of cards so they were neat and ready for the next step. "Alright then, M'Lady! Where would you like me to pick a card from? Choose, choose. Don't be hasty, think through it now..." Shane said, still in that same gameshow voice. He couldn't help but grin himself, the whole thing made him giddy. He was in a good mood and this didn't seem like a class so far to make him feel inferior or afraid...not that Shane was ever afraid...no, not ever.... Adalynn came in and sat with another student, asking if they knew how to use the cards. Shane laughed. Adalynn....always sweet, choosing the one girl sittign alone to be partners with. He tried to catch her and winked, not knowing whether or not she saw or if she even cared, but nothing could change his good mood. "Choose, choose, love! Let's not waste time now...you never what we're going to find in our little game of Tarot." Shane said, sniffling and rubbing his nose a little. [/blockquote]

The way Shane was speaking in his gameshow-esque voice confused Shay slightly, because she had no idea what he was trying to sound like. She had never really seen a “gameshow” before but the fact that he was trying to have fun with everything he was doing made her smile and giggle a bit. Being partnered with him was certainly going to make a class she normally wouldn’t enjoy far more enjoyable. Ok…I’m glad I did it right…now…um…hmm… She thought out loud as he asked her where she would like to pick from the deck. In her mind, she wondered whether it really mattered. If, a deck of cards could really tell her anything about her future.
She noticed turned to see who came in late and noticed the blonde girl whose name she couldn’t remember but was pretty sure was Adalynn enter the room. They had a couple of classes together and she seemed really nice; certainly they would get along. Shay would have to talk to her soon, maybe she could make a new friend. Ok ok…um…I pick the middle. I guess… She said, watching to see what step was going to come next.

Soras heard a girls voice, she looked up and saw a very pretty girl standing asking her if she could sit with her and Soras motioned for her to take a seat next to her. Sure! I was hoping this class wasn't going to be an odd number. She lowered her voice, I dread absolutely dread working with professors. Unless you counted making out and snuggling work...if it was then she loved it, only with her personal Professor Skylar. She started smiling and giggled a little. I'm Soras Harkness. I was Serenity Soras Harkness but I dropped the first name. It was too...simple I guess. She smiled at Adalynn and said, Thanks, I've been doing Tarot since I was a little girl, I was raised in Greece. My high priestess made sure I learned them. She shuffled them again, Shuffling them helped me have fun with it when I was younger. Don't worry you're in good hands. She cut the deck in half and then in fourths and put them all back together and laid them out in the pattern that the diagram depicted and said, Go on. Pick a card. We'll see how accurate it is to you. She smiled, she liked Tarot but she didn't think it was all true, her mother had made sure that she knew how to do it though.

Adalynn smiled at the girl as she accepted her class partnership. I don't really mind working with professor's...they're a lot nicer than some of the girl's I've met...but it seems like I'm in luck...you haven't tried to hex me yet. She with a slight blush at the thought of how the girl's use to torment her back at Beuxbaton's....Aww...I'm sad you don't like that name...the name serenity sounds so beautiful...so pure. I think it would a wonderful name to name my own daughter whenever...i get married of course. She said with another blush. She couldn't help but glance up at Shane at that moment...he was really the only guy who had talked to her since she began her schooling here...but lucky her she was already very attracted to him. She went a deep shade of read as he happened to look back at her and gave her a wink. She couldn't help it...he was adorable...She looked away and back at Soras, A priestess? I thought your kind didn't believe in the goddesses of the old anymore... in my youth we never learned such wizard prophecy... we lived much more simpler... She said nervously...she couldn't lie, she wouldn't allow it...humans lied...but she wasn't a human.... Prophecy magic has never really been a thing for my kind....we just let things happen I suppose. She said with a wink. She nervously reached out and picked up one of the cards...she stared at the back of it for a moment then look back up to Soras. Now what? She said curiously.

Shane grinned slightly as Adalynn blushed and turned back to her partner. The girl made him smile, just by being in the same room as him. He had to pull himself away from her in order to look back at the cards he was holding. Rubbing his nose and sniffing slightly, he took the card from the middle and started laying them down in the sequence he was told. He liked Tarot cards and reading...it was fun, but he wasn't always sure how reliable it was on telling the future. However, most of the time Shane's readings and divination tasks came otu true enough.
He laid out the cards and sat there, looking at them, his chin between his fingers in mock serious thought. "Well, let's see here, love. Looks like...well, it says you've found love, and that will continue to blossom...the flower there....hm.....blossom is such a gay word....um....it says someone will attack you when you least expect it...so I'd watch out for my enemies if I were you...and....you'll get sick." He looked at her and smiled. "Well, wasn't that fun? Your turn!" Shane picked up the cards he'd dealt out and put them in a pile, letting his head fall to the table and roll to the side, looking at her with anticipation with his messy hair in his face. Shaylyn watched carefully as Shane began to take the cards from the middle of the deck and set them in the sequence they were supposed to be put in. She was taking mental notes on everything she was doing so that when it was her turn, she would at least have some idea of what to do.
As he began to read off what her cards were supposed to say, she couldn’t help but notice how eerily right they were. She wondered how cards could possibly know that she had fallen in love when she hadn’t told anyone really, other than well, Zakaria and of course Skylar knew. But the thing about being attacked soon sort of got to her. After all of the extra protection she was under, she was still going to be attacked sometimes in the near future? This was troubling…but maybe it was just a weird coincidence? Then there was that thing about being sick…but she could handle being sick. It was almost always something she could just take care of with a simple potion.
She sighed slightly before looking up from the cards at Shane. Well, that was eerily specific. But I guess it was fun. Let’s see if I can figure this thing out now. She said, shuffling her own cards thoroughly before holding them out for him to cut them. I’m going to tell you now I’m probably not very good at this and if I predict that you’re going to die or something, I really wouldn’t take it seriously. She said with a half-smile. So um…where would you like me to pick from…? She asked nervously. She really didn’t want to predict anything bad.

Soras grinned and said, I don't hex fairies, or demons, or angels, or wolves, or vampires, or whatever else we have here at this godforsaken school. Soras smiled and playfully tapped Adalynn's nose. Those girls are just jealous because they don't know what you are or what draws boys to you. I may only have human blood but I descended from Fae. My family, the Sirens of Poseidon were nymphs, we have magick in our veins thats about it. She pulled out a sugar quill and began to suck on it, she pulled out another one and handed it to Adalynn. I just remember the divination professor at Hogwarts was a flake and the centaur was good but we mainly just stared up at the ceiling trying to make predictions. Soras gave her a smile and said, Thanks you're a sweet heart, I'm not pure though, I know my father meant well but it wasn't the name Poseidon gave me. She sucked on her quill thoughtfully and listened, Serenity would be perfect to name your daughter, because she'll be either full fae or half fae or even intermingled. She closed her eyes and mimicked a seer voice, With...something just as pure as fae....something.... She squeezed her eyes and then opened them. I guess I lost it. The sight comes and goes. She playfully giggled then saw Adalynn eyeing the muggle born boy. Something tells me you have your sights set. She touched Adalynn's hand and said in a hushed whisper. Do be careful, I've heard that romantically intermingling with the Muggleborn students results in severe punishment. She pulled away and cleared her throat. She smiled and said, As I said earlier, I am a descendent of water nymphs, a type of Fairy. She smiled and nodded, I personally think its a bunch of hocus pocus, you either are born a seer, or you aren't. I don't know why they force these things on us. She smiled then nodded to Professor Yeshina, These classes should be specifically made for seers like her. Not the rest of us who could have a free period. Now onto the cards. She looked at the back of Adalynn's card. Now I'm gonna pick it up. She picked it up and flipped it over, and flip it over for you to see. And Oh. Look at that. She nodded to the card it had an angel with firey wings, What the heck, which deck did I pick? She looked at it and then nodded, Okay so I picked the deck that has angels on it...This is the Emperor. She opened her book and read aloud to Adalynn, The Emperor card is the "Who's the boss?" card. It is an important question. The meaning of the card includes being in control over your environment, your body, your temper, your instincts, your love life. This card gives the querent permission to be aggressive, brave, bold and in command. She paused and looked at Adalynn, How accurate is that? Soras raised and eyebrow and waited to gauge Adalynn's reaction.

Shane shrugged. He'd always been halfway decent at tarot readings. It wasn't hard, and as long as you took it at least seriously in your heart, you did well. Shane liked reading, it was fun. Sometimes Shane thought about taking it super seriously and being some sort of seer, but then again, he was Muggleborn. No one would take his readings seriously. Shane laughed as Shay mentioned not taking her reading seriously if it said he would die or something. "Well, my readings usually have death in there somewhere. So many ways to die...I never thought of so many..." he mused, smiling as if it were a joke. To him it really was a joke. He was really just a wasted space in the world. The world was doing just fine without him. "The bottom. Pick from the bottom," he said, pointing to the bottom of the deck. Everyone in the room had a future that meant something. Shane couldn't think of what his future would amount to someday. He had no idea what it held, and no idea what he wanted to do with his life. He wanted to be some sort of seer, that would be cool. But he belonged in the Muggle world...then what? Would he run from his father for the rest of his life, or become something great? Or would he die a tragic and fiery death at the hands of his brother? So many possibilities, so many deaths. "Death doesn't scare me...does it scare you?" he asked, a grin on his lips as he glanced at Adalynn once again. [/blockquote]
